The 4th Annual General Meeting of EURead was attended by 25 reading promotion and literacy organizations from 22 European countries, along with special guests from the United States, Japan and China, who recently convened at the Scotland House in Brussels. In keeping with the motto “Public vs. Private? Models of Funding for Reading and Literacy in Europe”, EURead members and guests discussed the opportunities of funding in the field of education together with participants from publishing houses, companies and politics. The aim is to develop future strategies for the promotion of reading and literacy. Special US guests, The Literacy Project and Reach Out and Read nonprofit organizations, were invited to share best practices and raise awareness of their early childhood education and literacy initiatives.

“Being a part of EURead’s Summit this year was a pivotal experience for The Literacy Project. It opened our minds to global literacy issues, introduced us to world leaders with a passion for aiding struggling readers and deeply influenced us with new campaign ideas,” stated Sue Grant, Founder of the Literacy Project, “It was quite an honor to share our mutual successes and brainstorm far reaching goals.”

Representatives from the United States, Japan and China were all special guests of the 2018 EURead Summit for the first time this year.
