CIOs say that using business intelligence and analytics to mine more value from data will be their top strategic priority this year.
The importance of analytics as a business tool was highlighted Tuesday during the Wall Street Journal CIO Network conference, where a poll showed that BI and analytics was the top priority for about 40% of attendees. The poll was taken during a talk with Peter Sondergaard, senior vice president of research at Gartner Inc. IT -6.61% He was interviewed on stage by CIO Journal editor Michael Hickins.
CIO Journal had a chance to talk to some of those CIOs about how they use analytics, and why it is so important to them. In some cases, CIOs find it is leading to deeper insights into their supply chain or a better understanding of how customers relate to products. Given effective distribution of knowledge through a company–say, through the use of cloud-based software–analytics can put more power in the hands of sales people or production workers.
