World Cup: Mobile, Social-Referred Viewing Up, Sponsors See Social Lift

The largest social and mobile sporting event in the world is now in the books and we have released our World Cup recap. We hope our first installment gave you all some great talking points with friends for the last month. Some of the key insights this month include:

  • On peak World Cup days, nearly 1 in 4 online video starts happened on smartphone (16%) and tablet (7%) devices
  • Tumblr, saw the largest boost in refferval video start percentage with a 406% increase on the opening day.
  • Official sponsors of the World Cup saw a 125% daily social buzz increase over the May daily average
  • Mario Goetze’s winning goal scored him 1 million+ social mentions on July 13.
