Appointment of Ken Berrick to State Commission

Governor Brown has appointed Ken as a Commissioner on the Mental Health Services Oversight & Accountability Commission (MHSOAC). This appointment reflects Ken’s leadership in the field of children’s mental health, and his work at the individual, local, and statewide levels to ensure that California’s children and families receive the care, services, and support they need to thrive.

The role of the MHSOAC is to oversee the implementation of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), and to advise the Governor and the Legislature on mental health policy in California. In fulfilling this role, the MHSOAC is tasked with providing vision and leadership in holding public mental health systems accountable, eliminating disparities, promoting wellness, recovery and resiliency, and ensuring positive outcomes for individuals with mental health needs and their families.

As a Commissioner, Ken will bring his experience with the complex challenges inherent to the public mental health system, alongside his core conviction that we can always do better for children and families. Ken will be able to play a direct role in shaping and improving the statewide mental health policies that directly impact the children, youth, and families that Seneca serves.
