Healthy Campus Expands Commitment to Mental Health Equity in California Schools

Los Angeles, CA – July 10, 2024 – Healthy Campus, powered by Campus Clinic, is proud to announce a bold new initiative aimed at enhancing mental health accessibility and equity across all California schools.

With a focus on ensuring that every student receives the support they need, Healthy Campus launched an extensive campaign to bring comprehensive mental health resources to every county in the state.

Over the past month, Healthy Campus leaders have embarked on a statewide tour, visiting each of California’s 58 counties. This initiative is not only a testament to their dedication to equity but also aligns with the broader goals of the recent $400 million grant aimed at enabling County Offices of Education to build robust mental health infrastructure in schools across the state

New ORS Software and CYBHI Program:

The cornerstone of Healthy Campus’ offering is its robust, one-stop-shop, the Operations & Revenue Suite or ORS software. County Offices of Education are currently preparing schools for the upcoming multi-payer fee schedule under Californias Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI). The Healthy Campus ORS is designed to streamline access to mental health resources and simplify operating the fee schedule at schools, making it easier for students to receive timely and effective support and unlocking sustainability for local educational agencies.

The Vista Unified School District, a large district in San Diego County, used its Student Behavioral Health Incentive Program (SBHIP) funds to implement the ORS Platform. Cheree McKean, Executive Director of Student Support Services said, “Vista Unified is a proud partner of Healthy Campus. Using the ORS Platform will allow our district to offload much of the administrative burden associated with implementing the CYBHI Fee Schedule. ORS is much more than an EHR, [Electronic Health Records], or billing platform. Its really a one-stop solution for practitioners and students.”

Equity in Mental Health Access:

Healthy Campus is deeply committed to equity in mental health access. This means ensuring that students in every region, regardless of their background or location, have the same opportunities for mental health support. The visits by the Healthy Campus leadership team have been pivotal in understanding the unique needs of each county and fostering relationships with local educational leaders.

Thomas Shaffer, President of Healthy Campus said, “The CYBHI fee schedule provides an unprecedented opportunity for schools across California to sustainably deliver behavioral health services to their students. However, in order to avoid disparities, we must ensure this fee schedule program is successfully implemented with uniformity and cohesion across the state. Additionally, we must recognize the variation in needs and resources at each County and adjust the tools we use to meet these organizations where they are. The ORS platform is designed to do that and we are demonstrating our commitment by going in person to each County Office.”

Misti Norby, Deputy Superintendent of the Modoc County Office of Education was impressed by Healthy Campus willingness to visit each County across California. “Healthy Campus visited our Modoc County Office of Education. Their commitment to standardizing the success of the CYBHI Fee Schedule program is commendable.”

Current News Context:

With roughly 1 in 5 adolescents reporting symptoms of anxiety or depression, the importance of mental health resources for students is more critical than ever. Healthy Campus is keenly aware of these dynamics and is dedicated to ensuring that mental health support is accessible and effective in this challenging environment.

Commitment to All Counties:

Healthy Campus is committed to serving every County Office of Education in California, providing not just resources but also personalized support and engagement. The visits, which included meetings with education officers, distribution of materials, and a unique gesture of goodwill with freshly baked cookies, symbolize the organization’s hands-on and compassionate approach.
