Complex Appellate Litigation Group

M.C. Sungaila is an award-winning appellate attorney who has briefed or argued more than 170 appeals in state, federal, and international courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Her practice spans complex issues in employment, product liability, constitutional law, and Holocaust art recovery, and she is also a leading voice in the emerging field of space law as an LLM candidate at the Center for Air and Space Law.

Before joining CALG, M.C. led appellate practice groups at two AmLaw 150 firms—one of the few Hispanic women to do so—and has been recognized as a “first choice for appellate work” by Chambers USA. Her accolades include two “California Lawyer of the Year” awards, honors from the National Law Journal and Daily Journal, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her combined legal and humanitarian contributions.

She is deeply involved in appellate policy and education, having served on numerous advisory committees and boards, and contributed to leading treatises and law school curricula on appellate law, effective amicus briefing, and gender equity in the legal profession.
